Shearing Day 2011 - May 8
Shearing Day was another great experience. We had a number of friends, co-workers and our son, James.
We saw some great looking fleece and discovered a number of future stars. And this year, Shakespeare took over the reign of King of Weight. His total fleece weight for 2011 was 9.25 lbs. His last year's fleece took a 3rd Place ribbon at the Great Western

Fertility and Infertility in the Alpaca - With Kim Gardner-Graff DVM

Dr. Kim is a 1994 graduate of Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Since 2001 she has limited her practice to the care of llamas and alpacas with a special interest in camelid reproductive issues.
During this one day course Dr. Kim will be discussing the typical breeding and conception process of alpacas with special emphasis on their unique reproductive characteristics. The discussion of “normal” will be followed by information on the typical work up for infertile and barren females, more common causes of disease and possible treatment options and protocols. A portion of the lecture will also be spent on discussing breeding characteristics to look for in potential herdsires and dams and the process involved in breeding soundness exams.
The morning of lectures will be followed by live demonstrations including breeding, ultra-sonography of both male and female reproductive structures, pregnancy ultrasounds, breeding soundness exams and work-up procedures on both males and females alpacas.
